Questions
Does the Desktop edition need an internet connection?+
No. The database is on your machine and every screen — billing, accounting, GST, inventory, reports — works with the network unplugged. The one exception is AI: the copilot and the CFO report reach our secure gateway. Licence checks have a 30-day offline grace period.
Where exactly is my data?+
In a database file on a machine you choose, including a network share or a second drive. You can back it up yourself, move it, and the app will find it again.
Can several people use it at once?+
Yes. One machine runs as the server and the rest of the office connects as thin clients over your own LAN. The clients ride the server’s licence, so there is nothing to activate on each desk.
What happens if my licence lapses?+
The app becomes read-only rather than locking you out — you can still open, search and read everything. Renewing restores writing immediately.
Which operating systems are supported?+
LekhaPro Desktop ships as a Windows installer and a portable build. There is no macOS or Linux build today.
What kind of PC does it need?+
An ordinary business Windows PC. The database is a local file rather than a server process, so there is nothing to provision, no service to keep running and no IT person required to install it. The machine that holds the books benefits from a solid-state disk more than from anything else, because that is what makes a large ledger feel instant.
How do backups work if everything is local?+
On a schedule you set, to a location you choose — a second drive, a network share, or removable media — encrypted when you set a backup passphrase. Because the books are a file, a backup is a real copy you can hold, verify and restore without asking anyone for it. We would rather you kept an off-site copy as well; local-first means the responsibility genuinely is yours.
Can I move the installation to a new computer?+
Yes. Install on the new machine, point it at your database file and carry on — the books travel with the file rather than with the PC. Your licence covers the number of devices your plan allows, so replacing a machine is a matter of moving the file, not repurchasing.
Does it print to a thermal counter printer?+
Yes, and silently — an 80mm receipt goes straight to a named printer with no dialog in the way. This is the sharpest thing a local application can do that a browser cannot, and at a counter with a queue behind it, a print dialog on every bill is not a minor tax.
Can I bring my books over from Tally?+
Partly, and we will not oversell it. There is no automated Tally import yet — it is on the roadmap. What we do is help you bring masters and opening balances across for a clean start on a date you choose, and keep the old system as a read-only archive for the years before it. Most businesses switch at the start of a financial year or quarter for that reason.
