Drug licences are a state matter — know your authority
Pharmacy is licensed trade, and the licence is a state matter: retail (Form 20/21) and wholesale drug licences come from the state drugs control organisation, several states now route applications through the national ONDLS portal, and the inspector who reads your Schedule H register reports to the state controller, not to Delhi. The table below names the licensing authority for every state we publish a city page in — sourced and dated, with unverified rows saying so plainly — because a chemist comparing software should not have to guess which authority the licence-expiry alerts are ultimately about.

What it does not do
- · It does not apply for or renew drug licences — it monitors expiry and warns; the application stays between you and the authority.
- · No home-delivery or customer-ordering app, and no marketplace storefront — the counter, the stock and the books are the product.
- · It does not file GST returns for you: GSTR-1/3B and the 2B reconciliation are prepared from posted books; submission stays with you or your CA.
- · No payroll or HR module, and no automated Tally import yet — masters and opening balances come across, history stays archived.
- · The Desktop edition is Windows-only; the Cloud edition runs in any modern browser including on a phone.

Does it work offline?
Yes — LekhaPro is offline-first. Your books live in a local database on your machine, and billing, stock, GST and Pharma AI all work with no internet.
Does it track batch and expiry?
Yes. Stock is held by batch with expiry and MRP, and billing picks the earliest-expiry batch first (FEFO). Expiry Radar ranks near-expiry stock by value at risk and Expiry Rescue suggests the best recovery action.
Is it GST-ready?
Yes — CGST/SGST/IGST/CESS by construction, e-invoice and e-way bill JSON, and GSTR-1/3B with GSTR-2B reconciliation, on a real posted ledger.
Which plan includes the pharmacy features?
The pharmacy features and deterministic Pharma AI are part of the full offline core, included in every plan. The conversational AI copilots are the Enterprise add-on.
Should a single-shop chemist choose Desktop or Cloud?
Desktop, in most cases. A single shop's day happens at one counter, and Desktop keeps the entire billing path on the PC — nothing to drop mid-sale. Choose Cloud when a second branch opens, when the owner needs the day's figures away from the shop, or when a CA works on the books remotely.
What has to be set up before the first bill?
Three things: your medicine list with pack size, MRP and drug schedule; opening stock entered batch-wise with expiry; and your GSTIN and drug-licence dates. Manufacturers and salts can be created as you go, and the catalogue importer accepts a spreadsheet from your existing system, so the master list is not typed twice.
Who issues our drug licence, and does the software deal with them?
Your state drugs control organisation issues retail and wholesale licences — the table on this page names the authority per state, sourced and dated — and no, LekhaPro does not apply or renew for you. It monitors your licence and your parties’ licences and warns before either lapses, which is the part software can honestly do.
Can it run multiple counters or branches?
Yes. The Desktop edition runs several counters on one local network; the Cloud edition runs any number of users from any browser; and separate branches or a retail-plus-wholesale split run as separate companies (and GSTINs) under one login with consolidated visibility.
What happens to near-expiry stock?
The Expiry Radar ranks value at risk in 30/60/90-day windows, and Expiry Rescue recommends the best recovery action per batch — return to supplier, push, clear or dispose — while the return window is still open. FEFO billing keeps the problem small by selling oldest stock first.
What does it cost?
Plans are ₹249, ₹449 and ₹2,499 a month (yearly = two months free), and the pharmacy features — batch/expiry, FEFO, Schedule H, substitution, deterministic Pharma AI — are in the full offline core of every plan. GST-inclusive totals are on the pricing page.
Where does our data live?
On the Desktop edition, in a local database on your own machine — billing, stock and GST all work with no internet and nothing leaves the shop unless you back it up or use AI features. On the Cloud edition, in your tenant of the hosted service, accessible from any browser.
Why do you have separate city pages for pharmacy software?
Because the licensing authority is a state fact and the trade genuinely differs by city — a Baddi-belt wholesale town, a medical-college city and a metro retail market run different counters. Each city page carries its state’s licensing facts with sources; the software is identical everywhere and nothing is city-locked.
