What this actually means in practice
In most small Indian businesses the owner is also the accounts department. You raise the invoice, chase the payment, order the stock and then sit down at nine in the evening to work out what the month actually did. Nobody has trained you in debits and credits, and no one is going to. What you need is software that keeps the books correctly while you get on with the trade, and asks you nothing you cannot answer.
That is the design point. You enter a sale the way you would describe it — this customer, these items, this rate — and the ledger entry writes itself: revenue, output GST split correctly by the customer's state, the party's outstanding, stock and cost of goods. You never choose which account to debit. Before you file, the error catcher reads the period and flags the place-of-supply, HSN, rate and duplicate problems that would otherwise surface months later as a notice.
Cost matters when there is no finance budget. The complete offline core — billing, GST, inventory, banking and double-entry books — is in the ₹249 a month plan; conversational AI is the only Enterprise addition. Your CA gets a proper Trial Balance, Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet rather than a folder of spreadsheets, which usually shortens the annual conversation considerably. And because the Desktop edition works offline, a poor connection stops nothing at your counter.
| What you do in the day | What the books do about it |
|---|---|
| Raise an invoice on the phone at a customer's shop | Sales, GST output and the party ledger post themselves; no account picking. |
| Take part payment in cash, rest on credit | Receipt posts to cash; the balance stays outstanding and enters the ageing buckets. |
| Buy stock from a supplier on credit | Purchase, input credit and the vendor ledger post; stock and cost update together. |
| Pay a bill from the bank account | Recorded as an expense, then matched when you import the bank statement. |
| Give a discount you later regret | The revenue-leak scan lists below-cost and heavily discounted lines each month. |
| Hand the year to your CA | Trial Balance, Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and the filing-ready pack export together. |

- Receivables, payables & ageing
- Business Health Score & cash-flow
- Encrypted local backups

What it does not do
- · There is no payroll or HR module — staff salaries are recorded as expenses or journal entries, not computed with PF, ESI and payslips.
- · Transaction history does not import from Tally or any other package; masters and opening balances come across, past vouchers stay where they were entered.
- · It prepares GSTR-1 and 3B and reconciles GSTR-2B, but does not file on your behalf — filing uses your own GST Suvidha Provider credentials or the portal.
Frequently asked
Is it hard to learn?
No — it uses plain language and fast keyboard shortcuts, and most owners are billing within minutes.
Is it affordable for a small business?
Yes — the full offline core is in the entry plan; AI copilots are the only Enterprise add-on. There is a 14-day free trial with no card.
Will my CA accept the books?
Yes — the books are proper double-entry with a Trial Balance, P&L and Balance Sheet.
I have never kept books before. What do I actually need to understand?
Three things: who owes you money, what you owe others, and what your stock cost. Everything else the software posts for you — each invoice, receipt and purchase writes its own balanced journal entry. You will pick up the vocabulary from the reports over a few months, but you can bill correctly from the first day without it.
Does this replace my CA?
No, and it is not meant to. It replaces the shoebox of bills and the half-finished spreadsheet your CA currently has to reconstruct. Your accountant still advises on positions, signs off the year and handles assessments; the difference is that the books are already posted, reconciled against GSTR-2B and exportable as a filing-ready pack when they ask.
What exactly is included in Small business · India?
easy GST billing, inventory & COGS, double-entry books & statements, receivables, payables & ageing, business Health Score & cash-flow and encrypted local backups, and 1 more. Every item on that list is a working screen you can open in the trial rather than a capability described in the abstract.
How is small business · india handled differently here?
It rests on simple enough to run yourself, everything in one place and tells you what matters. The distinction that matters is that these are structural rather than cosmetic — the behaviour is built into how records are posted, not layered on as a report you have to remember to run.
Does Small business · India work offline?
On the Desktop edition, yes — completely. easy GST billing and inventory & COGS run against a local database on your own machine, so the screens behave the same with the network unplugged as with it connected. AI and billing are the only two things that reach out. On the Cloud edition small business · india runs in the browser and needs a connection.
How does Small business · India affect my GST?
It feeds it directly rather than sitting alongside it. CGST/SGST and IGST are split from HSN or SAC and place of supply as each document is raised, so whatever small business · india produces is already correct when GSTR-1, 3B and 2B reconciliation are drawn off the same books. The return matches the accounts because it was never a separate exercise.
Does Small business · India cost extra?
No. Small business · India is part of the accounting core rather than a paid add-on, so everything in one place is there on the entry tier exactly as it is on the highest one. What the tiers change is reach and depth — devices, multi-branch and multi-warehouse reporting, and whether the conversational AI copilots are switched on.
