What this actually means in practice
A native application and a browser tab differ chiefly in where the work happens. The Desktop edition holds your books in a local database on the same machine as the program, so a search runs against a disk a few centimetres away rather than across an ISP, a load balancer and somebody else’s queue. It opens in the time the window takes to draw, and it opens on the screen you left, because nothing had to be fetched to get there.
Scale is where the difference becomes uncomfortable. A ledger of a hundred thousand vouchers is unremarkable for a shop after a few years; served through a browser it means paging, spinners and a report you start before going to make tea. Held locally and indexed, the same query is an ordinary disk read. The tab also competes with thirty others for memory, closes on a stray click, and can expire your session halfway through a bill.
Then there is the keyboard. Experienced Indian operators do not bill with a mouse; they use BUSY-style shortcuts, the numeric pad and Enter, and they expect the cursor to land where muscle memory says it will. A desktop application owns its own key handling, so function and Alt combinations are not intercepted by a browser, and printing goes straight to the counter’s thermal or A4 printer without a dialogue box in the way.

What it does not do
- · Windows only. There is no macOS or Linux build of the Desktop edition; a Mac user runs the Cloud edition in a browser instead.
- · The machine holding the books is a single point of failure. Backups are scheduled and encrypted, but their destination is yours to choose and yours to check.
- · An occasional connection is still needed, to validate the subscription and to collect the free auto-updates.

CGST/SGST and IGST are split from HSN or SAC and place of supply as each document is raised, so whatever desktop · windows produces is already correct when GSTR-1, 3B and 2B reconciliation are drawn off the same books. The return matches the accounts because it was never a separate exercise.
