Frequently asked questions
What does a GSTIN contain?
Characters 1–2 are the state code, 3–12 are the PAN of the business, 13 is the entity/registration number for that PAN in the state, 14 is a default “Z”, and 15 is the checksum.
Can I get the business name from the GSTIN?
Not from the structure alone — that needs a live lookup. Use the GSTIN Validator & Lookup tool for the legal/trade name where the live lookup is enabled.
