What this actually means in practice
The fact that catches most growing businesses out is legal, not technical. A branch registered in another state is a distinct person under GST, so moving your own stock to it is a supply — a tax invoice, IGST charged, an e-way bill, and the receiving branch claiming the credit in its own return. It is not an internal transfer note. Get this wrong for a year and the reconciliation at assessment is painful in both states.
So the structure is one login over several sets of books. Each company or GSTIN keeps its own ledgers, numbering series and returns, and you move between them without signing out. Roles decide who sees what: a branch manager works only in their branch, the head office sees all of them, and closed periods stop last month being rewritten. Within a single registration, godown-to-godown movement stays a stock transfer, with quantities that reconcile to the company total.
Consolidation then answers the owner's question. Branch profitability compares revenue against cost of goods sold per location, giving gross margin by branch — stated honestly as gross, because unallocated overheads are not apportioned for you. Consolidated Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet roll the entities up, and a branch GST view shows each registration's filing position side by side. Inter-branch sales still have to be identified and removed before you read the group as one business.
| Movement between your own locations | How it must be recorded |
|---|---|
| Godown to godown, same GSTIN, same state | A stock transfer only — quantity moves between locations, no tax invoice. |
| Branch to branch, same GSTIN, same state | A stock transfer, with an e-way bill where the consignment requires one, as notified. |
| Branch in another state, separate GSTIN | A tax invoice with IGST — a supply between distinct persons under GST. |
| The receiving branch's side of it | Books it as a purchase and claims the credit in its own return. |
| Value to put on that invoice | Open market value, or the rules-based valuation for distinct-person supply, as notified. |
| Group view at month end | Consolidated statements roll the entities up; gross margin stays visible per branch. |

What it does not do
- · Consolidation is a management rollup: inter-branch sales and balances must be identified and removed by you, and there is no statutory group-consolidation engine.
- · Branch profitability is gross — revenue less cost of goods sold; unallocated overheads and head-office costs are not apportioned across branches automatically.
- · The Desktop edition keeps books on one machine with LAN clients on the same network; branches in different cities need the Cloud edition or their own installation.
Frequently asked
Does it consolidate branches?
Yes — branch-wise books roll up into consolidated P&L and Balance Sheet, with a branch GST view.
Can branches bill on a network?
Yes — LAN multi-user lets each branch bill against shared books.
Is it offline?
Yes — branch accounting runs offline.
Is one licence enough for several branches, or do I pay per branch?
Multi-company and multi-GSTIN books sit under one login rather than as separate installations, so you switch between branch books without signing out. What differs by plan is seats, edition and the multi-branch tooling on the higher tier — check the pricing page for the current split. The full offline accounting core is in every plan.
How should a stock movement to our other-state branch be recorded?
As a supply, because that is what it is. Raise a tax invoice from the despatching registration with IGST, generate the e-way bill from it, and let the receiving branch record the purchase and take the credit in its own return. Valuation follows the rules for supplies between distinct persons, as notified — usually open market value.
What exactly is included in Multi-branch · consolidation?
branch-wise / multi-company books, branch stock transfers, consolidated P&L & Balance Sheet, branch GST dashboard, roles & permissions and LAN multi-user, and 1 more. Every item on that list is a working screen you can open in the trial rather than a capability described in the abstract.
How is multi-branch · consolidation handled differently here?
It rests on branch-wise books, transfers & stock and consolidate. The distinction that matters is that these are structural rather than cosmetic — the behaviour is built into how records are posted, not layered on as a report you have to remember to run.
Does Multi-branch · consolidation post to the real books?
Yes, and that is the whole reason it lives in this product rather than beside it. What branch-wise books records lands in the same posted double-entry ledger the Trial Balance, P&L and GST returns are built from — so there is no second set of multi-branch · consolidation numbers to reconcile against the first.
How does Multi-branch · consolidation affect my GST?
It feeds it directly rather than sitting alongside it. CGST/SGST and IGST are split from HSN or SAC and place of supply as each document is raised, so whatever multi-branch · consolidation produces is already correct when GSTR-1, 3B and 2B reconciliation are drawn off the same books. The return matches the accounts because it was never a separate exercise.
Can I try Multi-branch · consolidation before committing?
Yes — 14 days, no card. Test multi-branch · consolidation against your own masters and your own transactions rather than sample data: the questions worth answering here are about your business's edge cases, and a demo dataset is built not to have any.
