What this actually means in practice
An electrical shop sells by three different measures at the same counter. Wire and cable come off a coil and are cut to the length asked for, sold by the metre while purchased by the coil. Switches, sockets and MCBs sell by the piece, usually in modular ranges where a customer buys a plate, a frame and four modules together. Fans, geysers and pumps are branded goods with a warranty. Electricians and contractors buy on running credit.
Multi-unit items carry the first problem: a coil is bought as one unit and sold in metres, with the conversion applied so stock stays honest after a dozen cuts. Piece goods scan or search normally, and warranty-bearing appliances can be serial-tracked so a claim resolves to its invoice. Contractor accounts run on party price lists and credit limits, with ageing to chase dues. Everything posts to double-entry books that GST returns are built from.

- · Cutting waste is not modelled — if a coil yields slightly less than its rated length, the difference is squared off with a stock adjustment rather than calculated for you.
- · No electrical load or wiring estimation: LekhaPro will not size a cable or prepare a site estimate from a drawing. It bills what you decide to sell.
- · Payroll is not included, Tally data does not import automatically, and the Desktop edition is Windows-only.

Yes, provided the item carries both units and a conversion factor. Purchases go in by coil, sales go out by metre, and the balance is maintained in the base unit, so the shop knows how much cable is actually left rather than how many coils were opened. Part-used coils are the usual source of stock differences in this trade.
Can I give electricians a different rate from walk-in customers?
Yes. Party and quantity price lists let a contractor’s agreed rate apply automatically when you bill him, while the counter rate stays as it is for retail buyers. Quantity slabs handle the case where the same wire is cheaper by the full coil. The margin on each bill remains visible, so a trade rate does not quietly go below cost.
